Dr. Khamis grew up in Kincardine, Ontario and went on to complete his Bachelor of Science with Honors from the University of Waterloo. He then went on to complete his Doctor of Optometry at the University of Waterloo, School of Optometry where he graduated on the dean’s honor list. After completion of his O.D degree, Dr. Khamis furthered his education by completing a one year, optional extensive residency program in Family Practice with an emphasis on Ocular disease at Northeastern State University (NSU) in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr. Khamis is a fellow of the College of Vision Development (F.C.O.V.D) along with a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O) both designation earned by less than 1% of Optometrists. Dr. Khamis is the founder and owner at the innovative London and Sarnia Vision Development Centre’s where he and his team perform vision therapy, neuro-visual rehabilitation and sports vision for children and adults with (but not limited to) vision problems that interfere with school performance, crossed, wandering or lazy eyes as well as neuro-optometric rehabilitation for traumatic brain injuries such as concussions.
Neuro-Optometric Rehabilitation is a subset of vision therapy that deals with visual disorder that are a result of concussions, brain injuries, development delays or other neurological disorders.
Symptoms of post traumatic vision syndrome (PTVS) include:
Light sensitivity
Blurry Vision
Headaches
Double Vision or convergence insufficiency
Focusing problems
Peripheral vision constriction
Visual Tracking problems
Anxiety with visual tasks
Reach and grab inaccuracies
Balance and movement difficulties like drifting when walking, stumbling or falling
Driving difficulties, lane positioning, depth perception, speed maintenance, multi-tasking, navigation.
