Description:
Paradigm Provides: Community Rehabilitation - Paradigm Rehabilitation and Nursing Services Inc. provides services in the environments in which the client is living. Rehabilitation is offered in the hospital, home, school, workplace or wherever the client can benefit from the service. Community based services cover the entire rehabilitation spectrum from sub-acute care to job coaching. Residential Support - Paradigm Residential’s care model reflects our mission, values and beliefs. We believe that care should be person-centered. What does this mean in residential rehabilitation? Paradigm residential has no “staff only” environments. If a home is truly a home, all areas should be and are for everyone. Our homes have individual bedrooms with no more than 3 clients to a home. 24 hour support is available to all clients. Most people enter our residence with 8 hours of 1:1 staff support, some may require more and some less; regardless of the starting point, the goal is for that support to fade. Woodworking as Therapy - Woodworking provides the context for naturally developing and improving social skills and communication. These include descriptive language, respect for tools and materials, self regulation, cooperation and social harmony. Balance, coordination, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, hand eye coordination, and strength are all woodworking skills developed when performing the task required. Decision making, planning, conceptualization, sorting, calculating, creativity, assertiveness and problem solving are all skills that are developed, from choosing a project through to the finishing details. Behaviour Therapy - Behaviour therapy is a method of teaching skills that help individuals in everyday life. Behaviour therapy is not a medical intervention and is not a cure for any medical condition. Applied Behaviour Analysis is the application of learning theory to assess potential behaviour change procedures. In simpler terms, there are a variety of teaching techniques that can be applied and the behaviour therapist will go through the process of determining the best technique to teach the desired skill or to eliminate/decrease unwanted behaviour. Functional Behaviour Assessments are used to determine the function of the behaviour (why certain behaviours are occurring or not occurring), these may be conducted directly or indirectly. One to one Yoga - Injuries and health concerns can make a group yoga class impractical for some participants. A yoga instructor teaching several students at one time cannot focus on individual needs or ensure that the poses will not further injure or strain a particular person. When health concerns are a potential issue, it is best to have a private yoga lesson. The instructor can work around the problem and avoid further complications. Private lessons can work on personal goals in a safe welcoming environment. The benefits of yoga are widely documented including improving strength , flexibility and posture, improving over all health including bone health, blood flow, joint and spine health, improved balance, better focus, improved sleep, improved mental health, and improved immune system to name a few. Our yoga instructor has 25 years experience working with persons with acquired brain injury and also a B. Sc. in Kinesiology. Our therapists are trained professionals who understand the needs of individuals who have sustained a brain injury. They are a diverse group of individuals who have a common compassion and dedication to helping others.
