Attendant Care, Protected Accounts and more for 2023

Happy New Year

The Ontario Rehab Alliance team are hitting the ground running!
A little update on our current advocacy measures and upcoming events.

Attendant Care Discussion Group

Attendant Care providers are experiencing escalating frustrations with the accident benefits scheme and insurer claims handling. Most recently we’ve heard of an escalation of requests for minute-by-minute billing, among other issues.

ORA is arranging a member-only creative problem solving discussion group.

At the meeting we will check-in with attendees to determine the priority issues, compare notes of successes and challenges and brainstorm an action plan. Actions might include such things as developing additional resources and templates, holding a virtual event to examine the big picture and sector-wide impact, and a refreshed advocacy strategy, etc..

Protected Accounts Discussion Group

In September, we hosted the MVA Rehab Conditions & Protected Accounts event, with guest speaker, Gord Harris of Harris Law.

Many of those in attendance felt that it would be beneficial to continue the discussion around protected accounts, including resource sharing and trouble-shooting any current concerns.

We are looking to pick back up on this member-only discussion come February.

We Would Love Your Input

We want to hear from you, our Ontario rehab community – members and non-members, colleagues, peers, associations, organizations, etc.

What kind of virtual event would you be interested in attending?
What are the topics that interest you most that would likely also interest your rehab provider colleagues?
What issues are you facing as a rehab service provider in the auto industry that you would like more support with?

In terms of our own ideas, ORA is already considering the following events for 2023:

  • Social Media Event – The Basics tied with ‘What To Do vs. What Not to Do as a Health Service Provider’
  • Ask A Lawyer Event – We are bringing this back by popular demand
  • Practicing Cultural Humility in Client Care
We would love to hear your ideas, thoughts, concerns and issues.
Anyone in the Ontario rehab community is welcome to share their thoughts.Share Your ORA Event Ideas Here

November News & Events

Most of you have likely heard that there have been two recent LAT decisions supporting insurers’ denials of travel time. Two things for us to keep in mind as providers, though they are both very much in the ‘cold comfort’ category are…
